The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a voluntary self-improvement programme supporting personality development and leisure-time activities for young people between the ages of 14 and 25. There are four parts to the Programme; the young person learns or improves a recreational sport, develops his/her practical skills, assists others less fortunate and undertakes a joint expedition as part of a team.
The Programme is not based on monetary reward or competition. The reward is the young person’s self-improvement, development and increased sense of self worth. The participants gradually attain the three levels of the Programme (Bronze, Silver and Gold).
Aims of the organization:
- positive direction and sensitive motivation for young people
- helping young people to set and pursue their own personal goals
- self-improvement, development and increased sense of self worth of young people participating in the programme
